Zidane Iqbal of Club Manchester United

After coming off the bench in Manchester United’s Champions League match against Young Boys, Zidane Iqbal has become the first British South Asian footballer in the club’s history.

On Tuesday, the 18-year-old practiced with the first squad before taking his place on the bench for the Swiss side’s visit on Wednesday. With qualifying and first position in Group F already assured. Iqbal, who wore the number 73 shirt, came on late in the game to replace England international Jesse Lingard.

In April, the Manchester-born midfielder, became the first British South Asian to sign a professional contract with Old Trafford. He is now the club’s first footballer from the community.

Speaking to MUTV after the game, Zidane states, “It feels amazing, I’ve been working my whole life for this opportunity, it’s a dream come true, it’s just the start and hopefully I can keep pushing on.”

Donny van de Beek and Dean Henderson will both start for United, but Ralf Rangnick gave little away about the rest of his matchday lineup on Tuesday.

United interim manager told media that, “Even if we may be playing with a few new players or fresh players, it’s still important that we win the game.”

Who is Zidane Iqbal?

Zidane Aamar Iqbal, a professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Manchester United in the English Premier League, was born on April 27, 2003. He is an Iraqi young international from England.

Belonging from Manchester to a Pakistani father and an Iraqi mother from southern Iraq. Before being spotted by Manchester United, he played for local team Sale United.

Furthermore, in April 2021, Iqbal signed his first professional deal with Manchester United. Moreover, he made his first-team debut for Manchester United on December 8, 2021. In the 89th minute of a UEFA Champions League encounter against Young Boys in the 2021–22 season.
