Game of Thrones prequel series ‘House of the Dragon’ gets a release date
The Targaryens are coming back with the House of the Dragon
The Targaryens are making a comeback on HBO. The first spin-off series of HBO’s record-breaking behemoth “Game of Thrones,” “House of the Dragon,” will air on Aug. 21, the network announced Wednesday. HBO has unveiled a new poster for the show, as well as new photographs from the set, which you can see below.

The Dance of the Dragons
The ten-episode prequel series, set two centuries before the events of “Game of Thrones,” will chronicle how the House of Targaryen became embroiled in a violent and terrible civil conflict known as the Dance of the Dragons, foreshadowing the end of Westeros’ ruling line.

Who wrote House of the Dragon?
Based on George R. R. Martin’s novel “Fire & Blood,” the series was conceived by authors George R. R. Martin and Ryan J. Condal (“Colony”). Martin and Vince Gerardis, as well as Sara Hess, Jocelyn Diaz, Ron Schmidt, Clare Kilner, Geeta V. Patel, and Greg Yaitanes, are executive producers and co-showrunners on the series.
