Bollywood ‘Tragedy King’ Dilip Kumar passes away in Mumbai
A legend, Dilip Kumar passes on!
Legendary Bollywood actor ‘The Tragedy King’ Yusuf Khan aka Dilip Kumar leaves us for a heavenly abode from Mumbai’s Hinduja Hospital at the age of 98. He is survived by his wife, Saira Banu.
The announcement of his death was made through his official Twitter account. “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, a few minutes ago,” says the tweet.
You might have heard tales about Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor, and Dilip Kumar from your parents that how they ruled the golden age of Indian Cinema during the 1940s, dominating more than 50 years. Kumar worked for more than 60 films. He was known to be the first ‘Khan’ of the industry.
His movies include Daag, Aan, Andaz, Devdas, Azaad, Mughal-e-Azam, Shakti and Mashal.

Dilip Kumar – a legend
Born in Peshawar, Pakistan to a fruit merchant, Kumar was known as ‘The Tragedy King’ because of his innocent but handsome face, tousled hair, gorgeous smile, and deep-husky voice. His father took the family to India during the 1930s. He changed his name to Dilip Kumar to hide his identity from his disproving father before entering into the industry. He was launched by Devika Rani that eventually led up to his first movie ‘Jwar Bhatta.’
Previously Kumar’s wife Saira Banu announced that she may take Kumar back home after his condition improved. Banu tweeted through the actor’s Twitter handle, “We are grateful for God’s infinite mercy on Dilip Sahib that his health is improving. We are still in hospital and request your prayers and duas so that Insha’Allah he is healthy and discharged soon. Saira Banu Khan.”
Kumar and Saira Banu did not have any children. The couple conceived in 1972, but due to pregnancy complications. The child could not survive. During an interview, Dilip expressed that he would be happy if someone could carry his legacy forward. “It would have been great if we had our own kids.” However, he said that they have no regrets.
