Pakistani weightlifter Talha Talib fell just two kilograms short of history at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as he lifted a total of 320 kilograms on Sunday.

Talha Talib in Tokyo Olympics 2020

A 21-year-old weightlifter from Gujranwala was representing Pakistan in weightlifting’s 67kg event at the pandemic-postponed Games, where he lifted 150 kilograms in the snatch and 170 kilograms in clean and jerk to accumulate a total of 320 kilograms. He took part in the 67kg category and held the gold medal spot until the final round before eventually being bumped down and denied a podium finish.

The 151kg, 166kg and 170kg category

Talib’s lift of 151kg in the Snatch category was the second-best of the round. He failed in his first Clean & Jerk attempt of 166kg and even though he was successful for the same weight in his next attempt and also cleared 170kg later, his combined total of 320 was surpassed by others, including Zani, who lifted just 2kg more than Talib.

In the end, he finished fifth as China’s Lijun Chen, Colombia’ Luis Javier Mosquera Lozano, and Italy’s Mirko Zani captured gold, silver, and bronze respectively.

During Clean & Jerk, he was in the lead, giving his growing number of fans back home a ray of hope. Nevertheless, Talib’s performance despite an obvious lack of resources turned him into a hero. Twitter praised him and his name became the top Pakistani trend.

Nida Dar knocks off casual sexist remarks from Cricketer Abdul Razzaq

Nida Dar knocks off casual sexist remarks from Cricketer Abdul Razzaq

Casual sexism as a culture of Pakistan

It’s undeniably true that the Pakistan women’s cricket team is supported by the ability Nida Dar brings to the field. However, in spite of Dar’s place in worldwide cricket, our men cannot appear to move beyond passing judgment on her for her appearance. This time its our own Pakistani former cricketer, Abdul Razzaq.

Abdul Razzaq throws a sexist remark at Nida Dar

Former International player Abdul Razzaq along with Nida Dar of Pakistan’s cricket team were invited to Nouman Ijaz’s show G Sarkar, where a sleazy and sexist comment from Razzaq triggered a number of people. The three among other members were talking about women and sports and then as the conversation shifts towards marriage and post-marriage career prospects, Razzaq nonchalantly passed misogynist comments over Dar’s appearance and future in the game. At the point when the Sang-e-marmar star asked what Dar would have picked as a career, had it’s anything but been a cricketer, she shared she actually would have selected to be a professional athlete.

Not only this, but Razzaq made a comment on how ‘manly’ these female cricketers start to look like, “so they probably won’t even marry anyone, because in order to be on the male cricket team’s level their [women] feelings have ended.” He added, “Shake her hand right now and you will see she doesn’t even feel feminine.”

Nida Dar slams back at Abdul Razzaq!

Dar slams back and replied, “Our profession is such that we have to go to the gym in order to perform. We have to bat, bowl, and field to stay fit.” Razzaq cut her off and said, “You can tell by looking at her hair.” While everybody laughed like a fake-synced laugh track of a sitcom, Butt questioned, “So you cannot play cricket with longer hair?” To which Dar replied, “You can, but for someone who has kept her hair long would affect her game.” Ijaz stated that “Yes there are certain requirements when it comes to sports, of course, you can’t play wearing a three-piece suit. You have to abide by the rules of sports.”

This prompted a debate on Twitter as users got furious. One user Tweets, “@ARazzaqPak reduces female cricketers to marriage candidates while host Noman Ejaz keeps asking why do u not wear a 3 piece suit while playing cricket. Instead of honoring female professionals, these ‘men’ would rather humiliate them. Shows their upbringing.”

Another user tweets a reply,

Moreover, one user tweets,

Furthermore, a user tweets, “You became a world-class all-rounder but your mentality stayed there from where you started your career. Pathetic of you to ridicule a Pakistani star on national TV.”

In a country where sports is considered taboo, comments like these from renowned personalities and the humor around it are extremely disrespectful. All glory to Dar to slam the comments back and raise the bar high!

Youngest Pakistani mountaineer to summit Everest Shehroze Kashif is now all set to scale K2

Youngest Pakistani mountaineer to summit Everest

The 19-year-old youngest Pakistani mountaineer Shehroze Kashif who became the youngest Pakistani mountaineer to reach the summit of Mount Everest — 8,848.86 meters is all ready to scale up to the heights of Godwin Austin K2.

In an update on Facebook, Nepalese mountaineer and the expedition manager of Seven Summit Treks, Chhang Dawa Sherpa, congratulated Kashif for becoming the youngest Pakistani to climb Mount Everest. “This morning Kashif successfully climbed the Mt. Everest as a part of Seven Summit Treks Everest Expedition 2021,” he wrote.

Hailing from Lahore, Shehroze Kashif’s first trip was at 11 years old when he journeyed to the 3,885m Makra Peak, trailed by Musa Ka Musalla, a 4,080m pinnacle.

Proceeding to prepare for more and harder journeys, he did the Gondogor La K2 Base Camp trip at 14 years old and at 15 had the option to finish the Khurdo Pin Pass (5,800m) journey. At 18, he did Khusar Gang, a 6,050m pinnacle Alpine style.

Alpine vs Expedition

Alpine style means no supplementary oxygen, light packing, zero reliance on fixed ropes and high-altitude porters/Sherpas, and moving fast. This makes a climb over 6,000m riskier as the altitude increases. Whereas, Expedition style depends on fixed ropes set along the climbing routes by Sherpas/HAPs and the use of bottled oxygen.

Shehroze Kashif journeys toward K2

Talking with a new media outlet via telephone from Skardu, Kashif shared his excitement, “This is a 30-day campaign to perhaps the most troublesome mountains in the world. I’m the only Pakistani in a group of around five individuals going on this excursion with Summit Karakoram (a traveler organization) and a Nepalese coordinator. God willing, if successful I’ll become the youngest climber in the world to summit K2.”

Currently, Shehroze has reached Urdukus point, from where he will trek up to Goro 2 and then towards Concordia that will lead up to the K2 Basecamp. It usually takes 8-9 walking days to get to the K2 base camp from Askole. K2 base camp trek distance is 90 Kilometres from Askoli, the last village of Shigar Valley. Askole is reachable by Jeep from Skardu, it is 8 Hours Drive and distance is 126 Kilometres.

The year 2021 started off with Ali Sadpara’s winter expedition towards summiting K2. After celebrating his 45th birthday on the 2nd February 2021, Ali Sadpara left K2 Base Camp with John Snorri, Juan Pablo, and Sajid Sadpara. And never returned.

Reports then came that Sadpara, along with Snorri and Prieto, successfully summited K2, and had gone missing. Furthermore, they lost contact with the base camp late on Friday and were reported missing after their support team stopped receiving reports from them during their ascent of the 8,611m-high K2.

Sending out good wishes ad prayers for the safe journey for Shehroze Kashif!

Italy wins Euro 2020, beats England in a penalty shootout

A day filled with chants, and unforgettable silence

Italian soccer’s redemption story is complete and England’s half-century wait for a major title continues. And that happened because of a penalty shootout. Italy won the European Championship Euro 2020 for the second time by beating England 3-2 on penalties on Sunday.

scoreboard England vs Italy euro 2020

The match finished 1-1 after extra time at Wembley Stadium, which was filled mostly with English fans hoping to celebrate the team’s first international trophy since the 1966 World Cup.

Rome finally got it!

For England, it was utter disappointment again, since they know the feeling when it comes to penalties. After Gianluigi Donnarumma, Italy‘s imposing goalkeeper dived to his left and saved the decisive spot-kick by 19-year-old Londoner Bukayo Saka, one of the youngest players in England’s squad.

That was England’s third straight fail from the penalty spot in the shootout, with Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho — players brought on late in extra time seemingly as specialist penalty-takers — also missing. As Saka and Sancho cried, Donnarumma was mobbed by his teammates as they sprinted toward him from the halfway line at the end of the second penalty shootout in a European Championship final.

Times have changed for Italy!

It was less than four years ago when Italy plunged to the lowest moment of its soccer history by failing to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in six decades. Now, they are the best team in Europe and on a national-record 34-match unbeaten run under Roberto Mancini, their suave coach who has won an international trophy in his first attempt to add to the country’s other European title — in 1968 — and its four World Cups.

Mancini joined his players on the podium as Italy captain Giorgio Chiellini lifted the Henri Delaunay trophy to the backdrop of fireworks.

Mancini said, “It was impossible even to just consider this at one stage, but the guys were just amazing. I have no words for them.”

It was Luke Shaw’s first goal for England and it prompted a fist-pump between David Beckham and Tom Cruise in the VIP box amid an explosion of joy around Wembley, which had at least 67,000 fans inside. That was the only time Italy’s defense was really opened up in the entire 120 minutes. Indeed, after Shaw’s goal, England barely saw the ball for the rest of the game.

The misery continues for England

For England, the heartache continues at major tournaments – especially for the shootouts – after defeats in 1990, 1996, 1998, 2004, 2006, and 2012. They ended that losing streak by beating Colombia on penalties in the round of 16 at the 2018 World Cup, but the pain has quickly returned.

England captain Harry Kane said, “The boys couldn’t have given more, penalties are the worst feeling in the world when you lose. It’s been a fantastic tournament we should be proud, hold our heads up high. It’s going to hurt now, it’s going to hurt for a while.”

Berrettini, offering to turn into the first Italian victor of a Wimbledon singles title, hoped to depend on his amazing serve and blasting forehand to settle himself into the match however was broken Djokovic in his second service game.

Berrettini then began struggling for form, missing a couple of easy shots, but discovered his rhythm just in time, breaking back against Djokovic as he was serving for the set.

PSL 2021: Multan Sultans shines through to victory in Abu Dhabi

Multan Sultans wins the maiden title of PSL 6

Multan Sultans bags the PSL season 6 trophy of 2021, winning the maiden title. The team scored a 47-run victory over Peshawar Zalmi, on Thursday.

The top-tiered winning partnership

Two rankling half-centuries from Sohaib Maqsood and Rilee Rossouw made them the top choices in the midway, after which customary wickets at key intervals saw off the Zalmi challenge. However Shahnawaz Dahani the rising star and the emerging talented bowler of the entire tournament completed wicket-less, the others stepped up and saved the day. Muzarabani and Imran took two wickets each and Imran Tahir took three wickets in the end.

Given how improbable it looked at different stages throughout these past months, just to be at this stage now, the last of the 6th season of the PSL between the Multan Sultans and the Peshawar Zalmi, is somewhat of a victory for the whole franchise itself.

The sudden announcement of PSL 6 in Abu Dhabi

There was anything but a distinct beginning and end date until June 3 when the PCB announced a timetable declaring June 9 as the beginning. Limited player-accessibility and the way that this would be played in peak summer in what is, basically, a hyper-created that the matches will be played in Abu-Dhabi.

Also Read: PSL 6 remaining matches to begin on June 9

Moreover, the Sultans have been the most preferred group in this Abu Dhabi leg, winning five of six games. Mohammad Rizwan’s leadership has never really dampen the interest of that minority which puzzles over whether he ought to be Pakistan captain; a competition that-isn’t with Babar Azam which got upgraded by the two opening together for Pakistan and being one and two on the run charts this season.

But for the Zalmis, it is the third time in the previous four seasons that they lost in the final. They failed to keep Sultan on the low for the first half of the first innings. And Hazratullah Zazai faced only five balls that cause the big partnership of Maqsood and Rossouw, resulting in an almost half-century and a victory for Sultans.

Furthermore, team Pakistan leaves for England tour where after reaching Birmingham, the team will leave for Derby where they will spend three days in Isolation.

Despite all the challenges and backlash PSL 6 has faced in the first part of the tournament, we do have the most deserving team taking the victory, cheers to Multan Sultans!

Lionel Messi fulfills social media promise to fan by signing Barcelona tattoo

We have seen Football players or players, in general, giving their sporting goods (shirts/hockey/rackets) to their fans during the games. This is not new for them. But Lionel Messi won them all as he kept a promise he made to a fan on Instagram by personally signing the most magnificent tattoo on his back.

Igor Magalhaes love for Lionel Messi

It all began back in 2019 when a Barca fan Igor Magalhaes decided to get a big back tattoo of one of the most iconic Messi images: holding up his No 10 shirt after his sublime late-winning goal with Barcelona 3-2 victory over Real Madrid and silenced the Bernabeu crowd. The tattoo took three full sessions to complete.

Messi promised

But it only really started making headlines this week when Igor who is also a military firefighter watched Argentina’s national team train in Brasilia during the Copa America, revealed his tattoo to a TV crew.

An Instagram post, shared by TyC Sports, was seen by millions of people in just a few days – including Messi, who dropped an incredibly rare response on social media. “Terrible tattoo!” joked the Barca icon (used in the way English speakers might say ‘wicked tattoo’), adding: “I love it! I would like to see it and sign it.” and he did.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Logan Paul: A fighting faceoff with no winners

The battle between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Logan Paul

The battle between probably the best fighter in history Floyd Mayweather and outstanding amongst other YouTube characters Logan Paul finished in unsurprising style on Sunday night as Floyd Mayweather moved around Logan Paul for eight rounds without delivering any genuine damage.

Mayweather vs Paul

The 44-year-old Mayweather retired from professional boxing with a perfect 50 wins from 50 fights but came back to the ring for an eight-round “special exhibition” against Paul, who has found fame as a YouTube personality with 66m social media followers.

The fight

Mayweather, the retired all-time great five-division champion and longtime pound-for-pound king surrendered almost 20 years, four inches in reach and 34lbs to Paul who, at 189lbs, was by far the heaviest contender Floyd ever confronted. It didn’t make any difference as a man whose stunning reflexes and guarded abilities implied even the best fighters on the planet could scarcely lay a glove on him during his ceremony took care of the sluggish and awkward Paul easily.

Paul used his weight to manhandle Mayweather in the first round. He jabs a few punches but couldn’t break the opponent’s guard. The second round was Mayweather smiling and dodging a few jabs coming his way, which exhausted Paul during the game. And in the fourth round, he landed a blow on Mayweather who attacked for the first time and continued with it till the fifth. In the end, Paul landed 28 of his 217 punches. While Mayweather only connected with 43 out of his 107. Without any judge, it was declared winner-less but it looked like a Mayweather-winning kind of fight.

In truth, Mayweather could probably have ended the fight if he wanted to, but he knows his audience. It was in no way a glistering battle. It included a lot of Paul grabbing and holding, particularly as he got tired in the later rounds, and was deprived of any supported offense from one or the other contender, neither of whom landed many strong punches.

“I had fun, I’m not 21 anymore,” said Mayweather. Whereas, Paul said, “it’s one of the greatest moments of my life. I’m happy to have made it out.”
