Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal sets a new men’s international scoring record

Cristiano Ronaldo sets a new international scoring record

In the 89th minute of Portugal’s World Cup qualifier against the Republic of Ireland, the newly minted Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo set a new record. Goncalo Guedes swung in a cross from the right side, and Ronaldo rose to meet it and head in a world-record-tying equalizer.

In the sixth minute of stoppage time, he scored his 111th international goal, guiding his side to a 2-1 comeback victory.

“This record is mine and it is unique,” Ronaldo said after the match. “I’m extremely happy and it’s another one for my career. It’s about motivation and the desire I have to continue playing football, also from this last contract I made, in which I was happy to return home. If we get up every day with the ambition to motivate and do better, to make the fans and our children happy, that is essential.

“It’s another record for the museum.”

Euro 2020 two-goal effort by Cristiano Ronaldo

With a two-goal effort against France in a group-stage competition earlier this year at Euro 2020, Ronaldo pulled level with Daei’s 109. Both of those goals came from the penalty spot in the 2-2 tie in Budapest.

Christine Sinclair of Canada holds the lifetime international scoring record with 186 goals.

Ronaldo also created Euro history by scoring twice against Hungary in Portugal’s opening group-stage game to become the tournament’s all-time top scorer with 11 goals.

He became the first male to compete in five Euros, trailing only Carolina Morace of Italy, who has competed in six. Ronaldo is the first player in Euro history to score in all five tournaments.

Abby Wambach, Mia Hamm, Kristine Lilly, Birgit Prinz, Carli Lloyd, Julie Fleeting, and Sinclair are the top scorers on the list, with Ronaldo in eighth place.

The 36-year-old made his international debut in 2003, and his 180 caps tie him with Sergio Ramos of Paris Saint-Germain as the European player with the most appearances for his country.

Ronaldo had two significant achievements with Portugal, having won the Euro 2016 final and the first UEFA Nations League three years later.

Javelin Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra asks not to use his name for propaganda and dirty agenda

Javelin Olympics winner Neeraj Chopra is disappointed!

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra expressed his displeasure with the backlash to his comments about Pakistani Arshad Nadeem’s use of his javelin during the Tokyo Games on Thursday, calling the outcry “propaganda geared at furthering a nasty agenda.” The 23-year-old, who won India’s first Olympic gold medal in athletics in Tokyo, warned that his name should not be used to stir up any issue.

Neeraj Chopra requests media to stop dirty propaganda

Chopra, who became only the second Indian to win a bar of individual Olympic gold, stated on Twitter, “I would encourage everyone not to exploit me and my comments as a vehicle to advance your vested interest and propaganda.”

“Sports teach us how to work together and be a team. I’m quite disappointed by some of the public’s reactions to my recent remarks. There was nothing wrong with Arshad Nadeem practicing with my javelin; it was within the regulations, and please do not exploit my name to promote a shady purpose.” He added.

Chopra revealed in a recent interview that he was looking for his own javelin before his first throw in the Olympic final on August 7 and discovered it in the hands of Nadeem.

Any javelin submitted to the officials by a contestant for his use can be used by any other competitor, according to the rules. Except for pole vault, this rule applies to all field events.

Chopra, who used the Valhalla version of the Nordic brand in the final, made it obvious that Nadeem, who came in fifth, had done nothing wrong.

“A controversy (mudda) has come up that I had talked about taking the javelin from Pakistani participant Arshad Nadeem before my first throw in the final (on August 7). It has been made into a big controversy,” Chopra said in a video clip posted along with his tweet.

Great sportsmanship

“It’s is a very simple thing, we keep our personal javelin (inside a holding rack) but it can be used by anybody. It is the rule and there is nothing wrong with that. He (Nadeem) was having the javelin and preparing for his throw. I asked him to give it to me for my throw. “I am very sad that a big controversy has been created taking my name. We javelin throwers share a good bond and speak to each other nicely.”

Ramiz Raja to take over as PCB Chairman

Ramiz Raja to take over as PCB Chairman

Ramiz Raja to take over as PCB chairman

The Pakistan Cricket Board is likely to elect Ramiz Raja as its next chairman (PCB). Following a meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan, who approved the change of guard at the PCB, the decision was made. Once the succession process is completed, Raja will take over for Ehsan Mani.

On Monday afternoon (August 23), both Ramiz and Mani met with the Prime Minister. “I have informed him (Imran Khan) my plans,” Ramiz, a former Pakistan captain, said after the meeting. He’ll call,” he said, and he chose to wait for a response from the PM’s office. The decision was finally taken three days later.

Ramiz has announced his acceptance of the position. “The aim is to reset Pakistan cricket’s GPS and will be in pursuit of excellence,” Raja, who was also a Chief Executive Officer of PCB, announced the news on Thursday, August 26th.

Meanwhile, Imran is said to have requested Mani, whose three-year span as Prime Minister came to an end on Wednesday, to guarantee a seamless handover of power. Mani (76), a seasoned cricket administrator with experience at both the PCB and the International Cricket Council (ICC), was deemed too old for the role, which demanded a lot of energy, especially at the ICC forum, where the PCB has few friends.

Did Imran nominate names for Chairman PCB?

Sources revealed that PM Imran nominated two names for the governing board which include former captain Ramiz Raja and Dr. Jawad Sajid Khan, chairman of the Lahore Gymkhana. One of these, likely to be Raja, will be elected for the role of PCB chairman.

Raja had met Imran on Monday and shared his vision about taking Pakistan cricket forward with the premier.

When will Ramiz Raja join the office as chairman PCB?

Ramiz’s appointment will be a lengthy procedure. As one of the two nominations, his name will be forwarded to the PCB’s Board of Governors first. If another member of the Board of Governors wishes to run, an election may be held, but a PM’s choice is unlikely to face opposition. Mani was elected unopposed three years ago after being nominated by Imran. In the same way, Ramiz should be able to rise to the top.

Neeraj Chopra says that it would have been good if Arshad Nadeem had won a medal too

Neeraj Chopra might have lost count of the number of interviews he has done since winning his historic gold medal in athletics at the Tokyo Olympics on Saturday. Arshad Nadeem from Mian Channu Pakistan who was also in the battle to have his maiden title in the Tokyo Olympics stood in the 5th spot.

Neeraj Chopra during one of his interviews with CNN-News18 said that “Good to have Nadeem on the podium too. Asia ka naam ho jata.”

The 23-year-old won India’s first-ever athletic gold in Olympics with a throw of 87.58m in his second attempt. He dominated the event and remained at the top of the field throughout the finale. He managed to garner attention and fans from Pakistan as well.

Before the Indo-Pak finals, javelin throws, Arshad, a year older than Neeraj, stunned the Qualification Group B with a throw of 85.16 m – a little less than Neeraj’s 86.65m in Group A but topping his group nevertheless. But despite being the hope for the maiden title Nadeem stood in 5th spot.

On this budding rivalry and competition between Pakistan and India, Neeraj said, “Cricket mei chal jata hai7-8 countries hoti hai, par Olympic mei ye sab karna theek nahi hai.”

(It’s okay to do the comparison in cricket where 7-8 countries are taking part but not fair in Olympics),” he said.

While recalling Neeraj said, “He congratulated me with a warm smile. I told him you look “tagray” in his national costume. Moreover, he told him that he did well and wished all the best for the future.”

This warm gesture may not ease tensions on the borders of Pakistan and India but this might change or melt a few hearts with love for sports.

Lionel Messi to leave Barcelona due to financial constraint

Lionel Messi to leave Barcelona due to financial constraint

Messi is leaving FC Barcelona

On Thursday, the Catalan giants revealed the news in a statement, despite FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi has reached an agreement and the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today; this did not happen because of Spanish LaLiga regulations on player registration.

As a result of this situation, Messi shall not be staying on at FC Barcelona. Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of the player and the club will ultimately not be fulfilled.

The statement further reads, “FC Barcelona wholeheartedly expresses its gratitude to the player for his contribution to the aggrandizement of the club and wishes him all the very best for the future in his personal and professional life.”

Messi was free to negotiate a transfer with other clubs after his deal ran out at the end of June. However, Barcelona had always maintained he wanted to stay with the club. The 34-year-old was reported to sign a new five-year deal.

Was Messi leaving in 2020?

Furthermore, Messi had tried to leave Barcelona in August 2020. He made a formal request for an exit after a breakdown in his relationship with then-president Josep Maria Bartomeu. However, successor Joan Laporta, who presided over the Argentine’s rise to greatness, convinced him to stay.

Social Media uproar over Messi leaving FC Barcelona

The bomb that was dropped on the fans last night was enough to cause an uproar on social media. The news was circulated that a new contract between Barcelona and Messi was to be signed but no one really expected that Messi won’t return due to financial constraints.

It’s more than 12 hours since the news was announced but Twitter is still trending with the hashtag ‘Messi’ and ‘GOAT.’

Fans are sharing memories and their favorite moments,

Moreover a funny one,

Another tweet came in,

A massive amount of fans took to Twitter to share their anger, disappointment, and sadness,

No grand farewell for Messi!

The announcement stresses in an official capacity that both the club and the player need to keep up with their relationship. The statement was very short and direct. No enormous accolade for the player. No stats or details. Simply a symbolic piece of appreciation.

In the event that you didn’t have a clue about this was Messi, you’d think they were discussing a squad player. Weird!

The reasons for the departure of Messi

LaLiga struck a deal with a private equity firm, CVC Capital Partners, which would see LaLiga receive a cash infusion of around $3.2 billion in return for 10% of future revenues and a 10% stake in a newly formed commercial company. Barcelona, like Real Madrid are dead-set against the CVC agreement.

What was wrong about the deal? Isn’t cash important?

Real Madrid also say LaLiga arranged the deal without their consent and that it hands the fate of the clubs over to private financial investors. They’re conceivably discontent with how LaLiga and CVC may reallocate funds going ahead. The arrangement now should be supported by the clubs, and Real Madrid and Barcelona are probably going to lead the “no” front.

Messi’s position into this mess

Basically, LaLiga, as a product, is less important without Messi. His departure could turn public opinions against La Liga.

Barcelona and Real Madrid produce the main part of Liga income and a sizable piece of that streams down to different clubs. Messi leaving wouldn’t simply hurt Barcelona, it would hurt LaLiga also in business terms. That is one more of the hypotheses being quibbled about. Yet, another factor could be having had months to talk to Messi and his family, Barcelona simply could not arrange the money and suddenly realized they couldn’t afford him.

Another strange thing is no teammate has made any official statement. The player is silent, too, as is the club president, Joan Laporta. Could this all be a bluff? or a power play? or is Laporta is pulling a mind game? Despite both the player and the club wanting him to stay, is the biggest star in world football really leaving the league?

Arshad Nadeem

Hailing from Mian Channu, Arshad Nadeem is a Pakistani athlete who specializes in the javelin throw. He represents WAPDA in domestic competition.

In Dec 2019, he established a new South Asian Games record in the Javelin throw with a distance of 86.29 m, thus securing direct qualification to the 2020 Summer Olympics. Nadeem is the first-ever Pakistani athlete to qualify for the final of any track and field event in the Olympics.

Nadeem will be joined by Finland’s Lassi Eteltalo, whose first attempt of 84.50m, a season’s best, granted him passage to the medal round.

Arshad’s main competitors will be India’s Neeraj Chopra and Germany’s Johannes Vetter. The fact that some of the best javelin throwers did not make it to the final.

ICC dismisses India’s request against Kashmir Premier League

ICC dismisses India’s request against Kashmir Premier League

ICC dismisses India’s request against Kashmir Premier League (KPL)

International Cricket Council (ICC) has dismissed India’s request against KPL. According to International Cricket Council, it has no jurisdiction over Kashmir Premier League (KPL), as it’s not an international cricket tournament.

ICC’s response came after the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) approached the governing body to take action against the tournament.

Caution from BCCI for the players for Kashmir Premier League

Prior, BCCI had cautioned and undermined international players partaking in the tournament that they won’t be permitted to participate in any cricketing related activities in India.

BCCI then approached ICC and asked them to drop the tournament based on matches being played in the disputed area.

The BCCI letter to International Cricket Council

BCCI in their letter to ICC asserted that Kashmir is a disputed domain; henceforth no matches in such regions ought to have ICC’s endorsement. Nonetheless, ICC doesn’t have any guidelines and regulations against matches in disputed regions. It should be noticed that India has recently played two ODIs in Srinagar, which is in Indian involved Kashmir and is a disputed region.

A domestic league on a disputed territory

Moreover, domestic leagues like KPL require endorsement from the nation’s board, which for this situation is PCB. ICC’s guideline in regards to the endorsement of an occasion, condition 2.1.3, obviously expresses that every national cricket organization will have the sole and selective right to authorize the arranging of domestic matches inside its territory. PCB has effectively approved KPL, which is planned from August 6-16, 2021, in Muzaffarabad.

Furthermore, on Friday, former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs had slammed BCCI for trying to stop him from participating in KPL.

“Completely unnecessary of the @BCCI to bring their political agenda with Pakistan into the equation and trying to prevent me from playing in the KPL. Also threatening me saying they won’t allow me entry into India for any cricket-related work. Ludicrous,” Gibbs tweeted.

Moreover, former England spinner, Monty Panesar, pulled out of KPL after reportedly receiving threats from BCCI. After denying him entry to India for cricket-related work in the future if he participates in the league.

“I have decided not to participate in the KPL because of the political tensions between India and Pakistan over Kashmir issues. I don’t want to be in the middle of this, it would make me feel uncomfortable,” Panesar tweeted.
