Novelist Khaled Hosseini pens heartfelt note for son Haris coming out as transgender

Haris Hosseini comes out as transgender

Favoured Afghan- American author Khaled Hosseini disclosed on Wednesday that his son, Haris, has come out as transgender and shared a beautiful note for his child.

Haris Hosseini

Acceptance with grace!

Hosseini’s debut book, “The Kite Runner,” was a critical and commercial triumph. Hosseini posted a picture of Haris in black and white on his social media accounts, writing,

“Yesterday, my twenty-one year old daughter Haris came out to the world as transgender. I have known about Haris’ journey since last year and I’ve watched her navigate some very trying personal times. Transitioning is such a complicated undertaking—emotionally, physically, socially, psychologically—but Haris has met each challenge with grace, patience, and wisdom.

As a father, I have never been prouder of her. I am delighted to now have not one but two beautiful daughters. Most of all, I am inspired by Haris’ fearlessness, her courage to share with the world her true self. She has taught me and our family so much about bravery, about truth. About what it means to live authentically. I know this process was painful for her, fraught with grief and anxiety. She is sober to the cruelty trans people are subjected to daily. But she is strong and undaunted.

Furthermore, the author of the book then tweeted a vintage image of Hosseini carrying Haris in his arms at what appeared to be a beach. I love my daughter. I will be by her side every step of the way, as will our family. We stand behind her. It’s a privilege to watch her enter the world as the beautiful, wise, and brilliant woman that she is. May God bless her.”

Following the news, the novelist’s fans on Twitter flocked pouring love. One user wrote, “What a brave Afghan father that bravely accepts his child pride. This is really perfect. Congratulations to have a father like Mr. khaild hosseini.

Celebrating 30 Years of Shah Rukh Khan: Roles that earned King Khan millions of fans

Shah Rukh Khan the king of Bollywood!

Shah Rukh Khan, a Delhi native who moved to Mumbai more than three decades ago, never imagined he would end up being known as the “Badshaah” of the Hindi film industry, and as the superstar celebrated his milestone birthday on Saturday, all he could think to say was “thank you” to everyone who supported him.

The journey of 30 years of Shah Rukh Khan

Khan, 56, began his acting career with the television programmes Circus and Fauji. In June 1992, he made his Bollywood debut in the film Deewana, starring with Divya Bharti and seasoned performer Rishi Kapoor. He has spent 30 years developing a hard to define screen appearance. The “Rahul” of his 30 years of work may be easily generalised as the excellent son, the attentive partner, witty but unyielding about huge romantic gestures. The man’s wide outstretched arms depict not only a generous spirit but also an invitation for a loving embrace from the woman he is courting.

Deewana marked her big screen debut after starring parts in Aziz Mirza’s Circus (1990) and Mani Kaul’s miniseries Idiot (1992). (1992). The next year, he plays a killer in Baazigar after playing the obsessive stalking lover in Darr.

Baazigar Shah Rukh Khan

In Kundan Shah’s Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1994), in which the line “Jhootha hoon ya sacchaa hoon, jane saara zamaana” appears in the hit song “Anna Mere Pyar Ko Naa Tum Jhootha Samjho Jaana,” he wears his heart on his sleeve once more as a struggling Everyman musician pursuing the girl next door, Anna.

Shah rukh khan in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa

Khan’s portrayal as the face of a new, globalised India in Aditya Chopra’s Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (DDLJ, 1995) was further cemented. Lacking gravitas or ego, but with a new-found sense of freedom to break the rules, he romanced an older woman in Ketan Mehta’s Oh Darling Yeh Hai India (1995), in which he did a nude scene, which didn’t make its final cut.

The king of Romance

After appearing in a series after DDLJ, such as Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Mohabbatein (2000), and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, he soon became well-known (2001). For his portrayals of an alcoholic in Devdas (2002), a NASA scientist in Swades (2004), a hockey coach in Chak De! India (2007), and a man with Asperger syndrome in My Name Is Khan (2010), Khan went on to get praise from critics (2010).

The comedies Chennai Express (2013), Happy New Year (2014), Dilwale (2015), and the crime drama Raees are among his highest-grossing movies (2017). Themes like Indian national identity, relationships to diaspora populations, or gender, ethnic, social, and religious disparities and grievances are prevalent in many of his films.

His romance never ended. Even in his movie, Zero (2018), he played Bauua Singh, an unusually short man, in a role that was different from all of his other characters. However, in this scene as well, when he is romancing a scientist with cerebral palsy, his arms leave his sides and adopt the iconic come-to-me pose. For the year 2022, the actor currently is waiting for his upcoming movie ‘Pathaan’ along with Rajkumar Hirani’s, ‘Dunki’ with Taapsee Pannu. Whereas, John Abraham and Deepika Padukone joins the cast for Pathaan.

Sheer brilliance all in all

It completes 30 years of Shah Rukh Khan, however, is without a doubt the only star from his generation who can appeal to both old and new fans—old fans like me who reached adulthood in the 1990s, in the midst of a newly globalised nation’s dichotomies, and new Generation Z ones for whom the politics and vibe of a performer are as important as their talents. This is because of the way he carries his stardom and manages his offscreen life.

Minions: The Rise of Gru going bonkers over Box Office

This past weekend, families flocked to the movies to see Minions. Tickets for “Minions: The Rise of Gru” were sold at approximately 4,400 locations across North America, earning an estimated $108.5 million. The Fourth of July holiday will likely have brought in more than $127.9 million by the end of Monday.

The movie is on course to surpass “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” which earned $115.9 million in its first four days back in 2011, as one of the largest openings for a July 4th holiday weekend. Through Sunday, “Minions: The Rise of Gru” had earned $202.2 million worldwide, including overseas showings in 61 different territories.

“It’s a tremendous debut,” says Jim Orr, Universal’s president of domestic distribution. “It’s playing very broadly across North America. Every single market doing extraordinarily well.”

The family films from Universal have had a streak of hits, including “Sing 2,” which has made more than $406 million worldwide since its December debut, and “The Bad Guys,” which has taken in more than $243 million. Another indication that family audiences are prepared to return to the movie cinema is “Minions: The Rise of Gru.”

“Families feel very comfortable bringing all their kids to the theater,” Orr says. “These results speak for themselves.” The spinoff of the popular “Despicable Me” series was delayed two years because of the pandemic.

Friday Flix Series of the Week: Ms. Marvel

Friday Flix Series of the Week: Ms. Marvel

A new world of superpowers with Kamala Khan as Ms. Marvel

Ms. Marvel, the newest Marvel Disney+ TV series, has exposed viewers to a variety of new settings in the MCU by showcasing mixed and various cultures, locales, colours, jam-packed action and ‘desi‘ characters.

I don’t know much about the Marvel universe because I’m not a fan, but because Ms. Marvel isn’t related to any other Marvel films, I figured I should give it a shot and basically start with my first Marvel series.

Ms. Marvel cast

The ensemble caught my attention right away because Kamala Khan, or Ms. Marvel, is not your typical superhero. She is really desi first and foremost. She is originally from Pakistan and comes from a Muslim household. Iman Vellani was the main lead.  Mehwish Hayat, Nimra Bucha, Fawad Khan, Samina Ahmed, Saagar Shaikh, Yasmeen Fletcher, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Laurel Marsden, Mohan Kapoor, and Matt Lintz make up the rest of the cast. Aramis Knight, Farhan Akhtar, Travina Springer, and others make up the additional cast.

Ms. Marvel storyline

In the pilot episode, viewers learn more about Ms. Marvel’s aka Kamala’s fangirl side as a result of her and her best friend Bruno’s (Lintz) attempts to win the New Jersey AvengerCon; they also learn that she’s a bit of a misfit as a result of her frenemy Zoe (Marsden); that her religious life is mostly addressed when she persuades Nakia (Fletcher) that they’re the new generation that can bring about change in their community; that her romantic side comes out to play with Kamran (Rish Shah and the Red and, her family heavily influences every decision she makes because, well, she’s only 16.

Even with her superpowers, which were effectively bestowed upon her by her grandmother, Bruno is critical to Kamala’s ability to fully utilise them. Without his assistance, there is no way Kamala could control the light that drives her purple energy blasts. Ms. Marvel is still having trouble keeping up with her foes more than halfway through the series, which serves as a good reminder that it’s entertaining to watch superheroes struggle and occasionally fail because it makes their successes feel like a much bigger reward.

The series also is more emphasised on the dual nature of Ms. Marvel’s appeal. Of course, the first is the emphasis on Kamala’s family in Pakistan and America. The other is what the Partition did to her family’s culture. In the upcoming weeks, it looks that the show will address this from a first-person perspective. That’s encouraging for the rest of the season since it suggests that the villains will be left in the past (which is also the present) so that viewers can discover what’s crucial.

Final Verdict

So far so good, the storyline is hooking. The amalgamation of locations, colours, direction, wit and action everything is on point! The young Kamala Khan, or Ms. Marvel, played by Iman Vellani, is fantastic. Her original tale of a teenage coming-of-age is introduced in the first two episodes, which are enjoyable, humorous, and colourful. The show is definitely accepting the hype it deserves and the cultural representation is better than what I see and observed in most of the Netflix stories for Muslims, especially the Hijaabi girls.

Sidhu Moose Wala’s song ‘SYL’ removed from YouTube in India

The devastating effects of politics and music

Following a protest from the authorities, YouTube has taken down a popular music video SYL. The video is made by the murdered Sikh artist Sidhu Moose Wala and published posthumously in India.

The Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal, which has been at the centre of a protracted water dispute between the late Sikh rapper’s native state of Punjab and neighbouring Haryana, is the subject of the song “SYL.”

The song, which was published posthumously on Thursday, also discusses other delicate subjects including the violent riots that broke out in India in 1984 against the Sikh community. Moreover, the army’s invasion of a significant Sikh shrine in Amritsar that same year.

Before being removed over the weekend, it had amassed around 30 million views and 3.3 million likes on the singer’s YouTube page.

“This content is not available on this country domain due to a legal complaint from the government,” said a message posted on the song link.

Load Wedding vs Raksha Bandhan: Nabeel Qureshi reacts to Bollywood ‘copying’ his films

The king of copying content, Bollywood!

When it comes to blatantly stealing content, Bollywood frequently draws inspiration from Pakistan. Artists have copied many times and it has served as an “inspiration” for the Indian film industry.

Raksha Bandhan vs Load Wedding

This time, though, it is Akshay Kumar’s most recent film, Raksha Bandhan, that has captured the audience’s interest. Bhumi Pednekar plays Akshay’s childhood sweetheart in the movie. The trailer also indicates that the two are eager to wed, but sadly, because Akshay’s four sisters are still single, their wedding keeps getting postponed. Raksha Bandhan, which was directed by Anand L. Rai and is set in a small hamlet, examines the relationship between siblings while also incorporating some humour.

The chronicles of copying content of Lollywood

The storyline seemed eerily similar to Nabeel Qureshi and Fizza Ali Meerza’s 2018 offering, Load Wedding and was pointed out by social media users.

One user pointed,

Another user tweets,

To which Nabeel Qureshi responded, “Load Wedding Pro Max?” He then quipped, “Ya Load Wedding dikhana bhai – thora aur expensive main.”

The same storyline

The 2018 social drama by Nabeel Qureshi, Load Wedding was a new dramedy with an engaging plot. Raja is a straightforward young guy who wishes to wed Meeru, the girl he first fell in love with. Furthermore, Raja’s mother, who is portrayed by Samina Ahmed, however, displays a red card to indicate that Raja cannot be married until his sister Baby Baji does. Raja’s family also cannot afford many dowries because of Raja’s dire financial circumstances, and Baby Baji is overweight. The idea that he would wish to get married before his sister, however, scandalises his mother.

Breaking the wall of societal stigmas!

Both the movies share similar issues regarding dowry, fat shaming and wedding. Moreover, the moustache too with a neat appearance and a neatly-trimmed moustache, Akshay appears to be nailing the criterion for the worried brother, exactly like Fahad!

Besides, on the Raksha Bandha vs Load wedding front, currently, Nabeel Qureshi is waiting for the release of his upcoming movie Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad!

The characters in Parizaad are multi-faceted and rarely stereotyped, thanks to Nadeem’s beautiful writing. From escort culture in a high-fashion rich state to an queer person in a middle-class family, the serial managed to spark new debates.

Although the darkening of Ahmed Ali Akbar’s skin tone for the titular part irritated viewers, the serial has an ever-growing fan base thanks to its unique storyline and characters, who provided a welcome respite from the usual family tragedies and poisonous love triangles.

Parizaad season one last episode

In the second-to-last episode, it became clear that Parizaad was more concerned with finding a true purpose in life than anything else. As a result, the preceding episode kept on going in the same direction. Parizaad’s refusal to believe in love until the very end. Which prefers instead to devote his life to his newfound yearning. Furthermore, showed that he still believed he was undeserving of love. Annie’s speech made perfect sense; Parizaad will need time to forget everything he had acquired from his experiences over the years.

Now we wait for the next season!
