Drama Review: Paristan

Drama Review: Paristan

The 30-day treat

Pakistani dramas walk a fine balance between being insulting and being a complete package of entertainment. The Ramzaan dramas are without a doubt the most popular. Suno Chanda initiated the trend, which was followed by Tanaa Banaa, Chupke Chupke, and now “Paristan.” Where we all expected Season 2 of Chupke Chupke, we get Paristan instead. Aymen Saleem and Arslan Naseer, the Mishi-Hadi duo from last year, will lead the series this time!

Paristan

A handful of the same names from Chupke Chupke appear in the Parisian cast. Leading parts are played by Aymen Saleem, Arslan Naseer, Mira Sethi, and Ali Safina. Asad Siddiqui, Merub Ali, Naveen Waqar, Taimoor Salahuddin, Rayyan Fawad, Romaisa Khan, Javeria Saud, and Junaid Jamshed Niazi are among the newcomers.

Paristan drama story

Pernia (Aymen Saleem), a young girl who lives at her uncle’s house, is the focus of the sitcom. She is always considering all of the various outcomes in her life. Javeria Saud plays her stingy aunty (mumani), who has a sweet and kind daughter named Ujala (Merub). As cousins, Ujala and Pari have a special affinity. Pernia aka Pari’s best buddy, Kamali (Ali Safina), is her go-to person for all of her job. Mira Sethi plays their maid ‘Zubaida,’ and her portrayal of the character is as always amusing and entertaining on television.

Mehreen is played by Navin Waqar, and the now-womanizer ‘Kamali’ could have a love interest in another amusing “phuppo” character (also a man-hater owing to her own disastrous relationship issue).

This is the first time Javeria Saud has played a loud and fun role, and she may have gone a little too far, but Ramadan series demand loudness and chirpiness, since it has become the standard for all 30-day sitcoms.

Whereas Arsam (Arslan Naseer) is introduced as a very strict and serious man. Who lives with her grandma, as well as his orphaned nephew and niece. Amanullah, Mooroo’s infamous character from Taimoor Salahuddin’s vlogs, is also introduced to us. It feels like a welcome addition to Arsam’s unhappy life, as well as a funny aspect. Not just that, Amanullah is going to add some more colours to Zubaida’s life as well.

Final Verdict

It’s a great series that promises to keep you laughing and having a good time in the future. Despite the fact that Aymen Saleem claimed that Chupke Chupke would be her final drama and that she would leave the industry, her return caught most of us off guard. Her performance was the show’s high point. Merub Ali’s adorable acting is a delight! The second episode also features Romaisa Khan. So, all in all, it’s a really good watch.

Friday Flix Series of the Week: Inventing Anna

Friday Flix Series of the Week: Inventing Anna

A new-age con affair

Few stories feel as “ideally positioned for the movie” as Anna Delvey, a Russian truck driver’s daughter who penetrated New York society by posing as a German heiress and scammed banks and individuals out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Netflix has turned the affair into a “CON-AFFAIR” after a magazine piece about her went viral in 2018.

Inventing Anna storyline

Delvey (original name Sorokin), played by Julia Garner, is a smirky “nasty girl” with an odd pan-European accent. Vivian Kent (Anna Chlumsky), a semi-fictionalized journalist, is on her tail, trying to piece together her story. It’s an intriguing story, but the series feels like a missed opportunity because we never really get who Delvey was or what drove her. Anna is a Russian-born woman who pretended to be a wealthy German heiress in order to defraud banks, hotels, and members of New York high society.

The 31-year-old, who was born in Moscow before moving to Germany with her family, went to New York City for Fashion Week in the summer of 2013 while working for the French fashion magazine Purple. She had previously studied at Central Saint Martins in London, but dropped out and moved to Paris, where she changed her last name from Sorokin to Delvey.

Cons and more cons!

When she arrived in New York, she went to Purple’s capital office and began socializing with the city’s wealthiest art patrons, proposing her idea for the Anna Delvey Foundation, a private members’ club, and art foundation, to investors.

She would defraud a number of people out of thousands of dollars over the next five years by offering to pay for plane tickets and hotels and then “forgetting” to do so, all while pretending to have family money. She also defrauded hotels by convincing banks to give her hundreds of thousands of dollars and depositing fake checks while avoiding giving a credit card.

Final Verdict

The series is an okay addition to the platform, many including me would find the story broken and loose in the middle. It would feel like the story rather failed in portraying in some sense. Anna’s character was played fabulously by Julia Garner. Her face resemblance was uncanny that added much of a mystery and more fun throughout.

Friday Flix Series of the Week: The Fame Game

Madhuri Dixit, a benchmark for everyone

Madhuri Dixit is a classic figure and a benchmark for performance and artistry for someone who was introduced to Bollywood in the 1990s. Dixit captivated audiences from the late 1980s through the early 2000s with her unrivaled dancing abilities and effortless expressions. She was the ultimate celebrity, a heartthrob who made young boys and men swoon. As an actress, Dixit convinced some of Bollywood’s major producers to cast her, garnering praise from critics and fans alike.

However, for Netflix, we have seen her return to a leading role, with the new web series “The Fame Game.”

The Fame Game

The Fame Game is a Hindi-language thriller written by Sri Rao, directed by Bejoy Nambiar and Karishma Kohli, and produced by Dharmatic Entertainment. It marks Dixit’s comeback as well as that of her former co-star Sanjay Kapoor.

The Fame Game storyline

The storyline features Anamika Anand, played by Dixit, is an older Bollywood diva who is fighting to keep her gorgeous image and stay relevant. Her manager and film producer spouse Nikhil More (Sanjay Kapoor) is attempting to get the most out of her career before it dries up. Anamika is a well-known actress. At home, though, she contends with an introverted daughter, a suicidal son, and an emotionally and physically abusive husband.

The plot thickens!

Anamika sees some light at the end of the darkness when her co-star and old lover Manish Khanna (Manav Kaul) reappears in her life. However, one day she simply departs from her home. There is no ransom note or threat, and while her relatives, friends, and the police look for her, various truths about her dark past and unstable family emerge. With the conspiracy thickening, the investigating officer Shobha Trivedi (Rajshri Deshpande) is led on a wild goose chase.

A good, clean watch with a little mediocrity

The Fame Game is a family-friendly thriller that is free of sexual innuendos, gimmicks, and physical violence. The series is kept engaging throughout thanks to the storyline and direction. However, there are certain problems in the series. The entire production has an air of mediocrity about it: The Fame Game is never boring, but it’s also a stretch to label it an out-and-out entertainer.

Thursday Tunes: Creating a legacy with Coke Studio season 14!

Thursday Tunes: Creating a legacy with Coke Studio season 14!

Music connecting people through and through

Rohail Hyatt founded Coke Studio in 2008. For anyone with CS, Rohail Hyatt is a well-known name; he was a key member of the boyband ‘Vital Signs’ from 1986 until 1998, alongside Junaid Jamshed. It was a novel concept for the people, as live-recorded music sessions with synchronized arrangements and live singing were not very popular in Pakistan, let alone being backed by a beverage company. However, something struck a chord with the audience.

Coke Studio season 1 to 12

From season 1 to season 6, Rohail Hyatt was the sole producer at Coke Studio, and after that, Strings the band, featuring Faisal Kapadia and Bilal Maqsood, co-produced three seasons with Rohail.

Then, for the first time, from Season 9 to Season 13, multiple producers were involved in the seasons, including Strings and Rohail Hyatt as executive producers. Shani Arshad, Faakhir, Shuja Haider, Ali Hamza, Shiraz Uppal, Jaffer Zaidi Zohaib Kazi, and Xulfi are among the Pakistani musicians on the list.

The distinctive new wave in Coke Studio Season 14

As a long-time fan of Nescafe Basement, I’ve always longed for Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan to produce Coke Studio because he’s known for introducing new, young voices to the show. NB was regarded as a maestro after performing several cover songs by new performers. He was then given the opportunity to produce Coke Studio 14. And then there’s this musical marvel!

Everything about this season was unique, from the opening track “Tu Jhoom” to the closing track “Phir Milenge,” which discusses the visually appealing set designs as well as the art direction. Season 14 has a more youthful feel to it.

This makes me question why this year? It’s because those with a different perspective were given the opportunity to pursue and present their own creative potential. Experimentation is necessary for music. This season was distinguished by its vibrant colors and music video-style sets.

Finally, some new artists!

When I saw the lineup of musicians, it was like a dream come true. Let’s talk about the artists for a moment. Young Stunners, Faris Shafi, Abdullah Siddiqui, Arooj Aftab, Justin Bibis, Zain Zohaib, and Butt Brothers. Kaifi Khalil, Eva B, Hasan Raheem, Shae Gill, Talal Qureshi, and I’m talking about peak brilliance! They were all new to the platform, and believe me when I say that this might have been disastrous. It was, however, the polar opposite. It was wholesome!

Seeing Atif Aslam in a new light and with a fresh perspective was a welcome addition. Ali Sethi elevated the song with his unapologetic attitude and beautiful singing. Momina Mustehsan’s singing style needs to be explored more. Despite this, each artist was able to add weight to it.

Pristine music production

A separate feature article dedicated to the production, composition, and arrangement is required. Sherry Khattak, Action Zain, Arooj Aftab, and Talal Qureshi were among the incredible music production team that worked alongside Xulfi and Abdullah Siddiqui. Furthermore, to add fun and creative originality to the tunes, many artists penned their own lyrics. The whole season was flawlessly accomplished by Xulfi and Abdullah Siddiqui, as well as Action Zain.

Except for ‘Mehram,’ which had many of us in tears, every song was well created with an enthusiastic upbeat feel!

Coke Studio season 14 most viewed songs in order

And you’re probably wondering which song has the most views. Yes, it’s Ali Sethi and Shae Gill’s “Pasoori.” Coke Studio discovered Shae Gill, who turned out to be a hidden gem. Moreover, the song is a lovely addition to Coke Studio and has a staggering 48 million views on YouTube! In addition to that ‘Tu Jhoom’ and ‘Kana Yaari’ (the first Balochi language hit song in CS) were next on the list, with 29m and 14m, respectively.

Find the rest according to the views here:

With great power comes great responsibility!

This year’s exceptional Coke Studio season 14 has not only produced amazing music but has also pushed the boundaries of creativity to new heights. And now, because the standard is impossible to achieve due to its uniqueness, the following season is predicted to be on par with or better than this one.

Whatever the future holds, we’re looking for new and creative music!

The unmatchable vibe of Abdullah Siddiqui and Atif Aslam with the latest CS addition GO!

The unmatchable vibe of Abdullah Siddiqui and Atif Aslam with the latest CS addition GO!

GO featuring Atif Aslam and Abdullah Siddiqui

‘Go,’ the most recent song in Coke Studio season 14’s repertoire, features Abdullah Siddiqui and Atif Aslam in an unexpected Urdu-English mix. According to Coke Studio’s Instagram, the new song is “an ode to sensitivity,” which caught everyone off guard. Including me [big time] I will explain why.

A hybrid trip to outer space!

I always listen to songs that make me joyful and make me feel like I’m flying. I adore outer space and the tunes that can transport me there, because some things are simply beyond of reach, such as going to space. GO is just the kind of song I’ve been looking for. A music that transports me to the feeling of being in a colorful galaxy far, far away.

The talented storm of Abdullah Siddiqui

We’ve all known Atif Aslam for more than a decade, but given that we’re in the midst of a musical renaissance, the fact that Abdullah Siddiqui is so skilled comes as a surprise. Despite being so young, he has amassed what many others have not. He makes excellent songs with his gorgeous clean voice. Atif Aslam’s Urdu rhymes were actually very complementary to the overall tone of the song.

I believe Abdullah’s song should have its own English version alone. Well, it’s only a suggestion.

Go – the music video

The song’s title is “An Ode To Sensitivity,” and each beat seemed delicate and closer to the heart. Smoke patterns and pink and purple colours abound in the song video! According to the lyrics, “I knew it from the get-go, ke nahe hun kamzor, darna nahe, nahe hun kamzor.” And this has a clear connection to the song’s caption!

Siddiqui thanked Coke Studio producer Xulfi on Instagram for allowing him to make a “wonky desi hyperpop track” and for letting him include a legend like Aslam. “Thank you for being there to guide me through all my panic and anxiety, and for creating an artistically generous environment for me to work in,” he wrote.

Listen to the track below

Just one thing for the whole Coke Studio team, “Halkey tou aana hi nahe haina.” Congratulations Xulfi, for this season! Nothing but super proud.

Ms. Marvel trailer introduces first Muslim superhero in Disney Series

Ms. Marvel trailer introduces first Muslim superhero in Disney Series

Who is Kamala Khan?

Kamala Khan was born in the city of Jersey City in the state of New Jersey. She is the younger sister of Aamir Khan, the daughter of immigrants Yusuf and Muneeba Khan. Carol Danvers, in particular, is one of her favorite Marvel superheroes (Captain Marvel, the former Ms. Marvel).

Nakia Bahadir and Bruno Carrelli are two of her closest friends. Her everyday existence was remarkably similar to that of Marvel fans, making her a sympathetic and popular character in the comics. When Kamala gained her abilities, though, everything changed for her.

How does Kamala Khan become a superhero?

Kamala Khan is a so-called “Inhuman.” The Inhumans, like the mutants and X-Men, are a genetic offshoot of humanity. They are, however, the result of Kree experimentation, the alien species from Captain Marvel (2018). After being exposed to Terrigen Mists, which are trapped within Terrigen Crystals, their abilities are revealed.

Terrigenesis is a process that occurs when an Inhuman comes into touch with Terrigen Mist. They are enclosed in a Terrigen cocoon and undergo a transformation that can result in a variety of bizarre outcomes. There are Inhumans whose bodies have been completely changed.

After being mocked for being an outcast by Zoe Zimmer, who would later become her close friend, Kamala Khan went through Terrigenesis after sneaking out of her hour to go to a party on the Jersey Waterfront.

Kamala had a vision of three of her favorite superheroes during her transformation: Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Steve Rogers/Captain America, and Tony Stark/Iron Man. Carol asked Kamala what she wanted to do with her life, and she felt she wanted to be more like Captain Marvel, so she emerged from her cocoon as Carol Danvers, dressed in her former Ms. Marvel suit.

Ms. Marvel Disney series is here!

In “Ms. Marvel,” the latest Disney Plus series from Marvel Studios, which debuted its first trailer on Tuesday, Kamala is making history once again. The show will premiere on June 8th.

The trailer Ms. Marvel ft. Kamala

The teaser opens with Kamala at the high-school guidance counselor’s office, with doodles of speech bubbles, hearts, and devil horns popping up on the screen, set to The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights.” Kamala is stereotyped as a daydreaming superhero nerd, but she gains odd cosmic abilities, such as the ability to launch energy blasts and generate glowing stepping stones that let her walk through the air. Later in the teaser, she dons a red-and-blue suit and unleashes cosmic punches with a big, glowing fist, as seen in the comics.

The trailer also features the very talented Pakistani actress Nimra Bucha. Fawad Khan and Mehwish Hayat however were missed in the trailer.

Nimra Bucha in Ms. Marvel series trailer

The studio originally planned for “Ms. Marvel” to debut in late 2021, but after the epidemic inundated the calendar with nine additional Marvel movies and shows, the company pushed the series back to the summer of 2022. This also puts the show closer to “The Marvels,” the feature film sequel to “Captain Marvel,” which will star Vellani alongside Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau (from “WandaVision”) as Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau, respectively. The film is set to hit theatres in February 2023.

Parde Mein Rehne Do trailer gives a prominent message

The trailer for Wajahat Rauf’s latest drama-comedy, Parde Mein Rehne Do (PMRD), doesn’t hold back its big reveal: Shani has a fertility problem, and since it’s a Wajahat Rauf film (the man is known for crafting hilarious, family films), the comedy is right there.

The storyline

Shani and Nazo are unable to have children, and it is not always the woman’s fault. It’s a difficult pill for males to swallow. Shani is perplexed and doesn’t see the need to elaborate. Soon enough, the screams begin.

The topic of infertility in men

In Pakistan, the subject of infertility has mostly been avoided in both film and television since it is typically considered taboo. However, with Wajahat Rauf’s Eid-ul-Fitr release, Parde Mein Rehne Do, all of that is set to change.

Humour intended!

Shani’s father (Javed Sheikh) is furious because other couples are breeding complete cricket teams. “Someone from the neighborhood is giving birth to their ninth child, and our boy doesn’t even have a can opener,” he sneers angrily to his wife. “The other family’s name is ‘nau,’ whereas ours is ‘no,’ [a pun on nine and none].” “What kind of marital ‘enjoyment’ is this?” he exclaims.

The quips and puns about the distinction between “essential” and “impotent,” ersatz home remedies, mantras, and tantras run thick and fast for such a serious picture.

The emotional layer

The emotions, rather than the layering of humor, are more essential. The story shows how a husband and wife who love each other deal with such a painful realization of not having kids and how this affects their relationship on a bigger level. Despite of love, the massive shock disrupts everything!

Watch the trailer here:

PMRD, his fourth film and one of five planned to be released this Eid-ul-Fitr (the others includes Ghabrana Nahin Hai, Dum Mastam, Chakkar, and Tere Baajre Di Rakhi), is a break from his usual fare: cheerful films about love, romance (Chhalawa), and, more often than not, road journeys (Karachi Se Lahore and its sequel Lahore Se Aagay).
